The Dog Barn is the central station for Happy Tails Dog Ranch:

Inside there are:

  • Office and Retail area
  • Indoor kennels
  • Heated floors
  • Indoor play area
  • Kitchen

Our indoor play area is a fabulous place to be if it's too hot or cold or wet outside. Or for our boarding dogs who need one last romp after dinner but it's too dark outside. Fully heated and cooled, this space is always available if for anyreason the outside yards aren't.

Our kennels are top quality and comfortable. All dogs are provided with a dog bed, but our boarding guests are welcome to bring their own toys, blankets, and beds. If desired, same-family dogs can share kennels.

Outside we have over an acre of fully fenced, supervised play yards, so that many different dogs and temperaments can be safely allowed to socialize. Our fences are all 6 foot high and are solid. Three sides of the yard have wire fencing so the views (even from the dog's eye view) are for miles around. Everything from cows to horses to the herd of miniature horses across the street are visible.

Up top we have a smallish area which can be segregated for small dogs and geriatric types who don't need all that much space to stretch their legs. Down below is our main yard that can put even the best ball chasers through their paces. We've recently cross fenced the main yard so we can have two large groups out at the same time, or leave the gates open for the entire crew to enjoy at once.

When the weather is HOT, we have shade and swimming pools for cooling off in. Keeping an eye on the dogs, if any appear uncomfortable (or when we just can't stand it either), we can return inside to the indoor area. The kennel is well insulated so it stays naturally cooler in the summer, but we do have swamp coolers to cool that area as well.

When the weather is cold - well, we've found there isn't much that will deter the dogs from playing! Never the less, the graveled areas to stay neat in the bad weather, and again we have the heated indoor space inside the dog barn to play in. The kennel is heated solely by the radiant floor heating system that lies underneath all of the dog kennels. You can rest assured that during even the coldest of cold snaps the dogs are toasty warm in their kennels at night.

So regardless of the weather, you dog will stay comfortable and entertained romping with their new best buddies.

Construction Updates -- Just for Grins we decided to leave these up for the curious

2/20/2006 - WE'RE OPEN!

We opened last week for some limited daycare, but starting today HTDR is offering full doggie daycare and boarding services.

The play equipment is in. Since it's been sooooooo cold this week (3 mornings of record lows for the region) we've been very glad to have the indoor play area! Especially with our radiant floor heating - the floor is always warm to the touch and comforting to those cold paws coming in from outside!

Ruby, DJango and Cisco all checking out the play area.

Always game for a new game.

There goes DJango - off to hide his latest booty.

DJango and Shadow love wrestling!

All of our kennels are in for our overnight guests

Beyond running, wrestling, sliding and playing, we also offer personal attention to the pups who crave it.

Shadow's a lap dog at heart.

Woo Hoo! The kennel has undergone massive changes in the past 2 weeks. It's been dizzying. It's textured, painted, has lights and a ceiling. It has cabinetry, swamp coolers and vent ducting. 75% of the concrete floor has been sealed. And kennels have started going in.

The Fence is complete too.

Best of all - we've settled on a date for our Grand Opening Celebration: Saturday February 25th. We'll be open for business as early as Feb 15th, depending on how the last minute details go.

The doors are in! The walls are taped and textured! The ceiling framework is in!

Next? Ceiling lights, painting, then cleanup.

Happy Friday the 13th! Sorry for the long delay in updates (look at that - can it have been an entire month already?) Over the holidays construction was slow, but continual. We have inspections on all of the rough stuff - plumbing, electrical and propane. In fact we also have insulation and wallboard up! The boiler is in place and the radiant floor heating is now keeping the space nice and toasty. Our kennels have arrived from the manufacturer - Mason Kennels. So it's mostly finishing work from here on out.

12/13/05:

Last week's cold weather has put a brief delay in construction progress - but rough electrical is in and the plumbing is going in this week.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
11/30/05:
We have walls! The framing was completed yesterday. Next on the schedule is rough electrical, plumbing, etc.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

11/22/05:

The radiant heating plumbing is in and the concrete was laid yesterday. This needs to cure for a week, then framing begins right after Thanksgiving. Happy Holidays to everyone!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
11/16/05:
Our first inspection has been passed - for underground plumbing. So all the drain pipes are in. Concrete prep and radiant-floor heating tubes are next on the schedule.
Meanwhile we continue working on installing the rest of the fence to secure the dog yard.
11/10/2005:
We have our building permit and construction is now underway!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

11/4/2005:

The screening fence is complete and our plat has been recorded with the County Clerk! Though, frustratingly, we are still working out some details to receive our Building Permit.

10/24/05:

All year we have been working with Weld County to satify their requirements to open a Doggie Daycare and Kennel facility. We nearly have all such approvals in order and hope to have a building permit soon to build out the kennel. For the past month our primary focus on the property has been on putting up the fencing for the dog play yards. The wooden privacy fences are nearly complete, soon to be followed by wire fencing on the north and west boundaries.

This picture starts to give you a feeling for the size of our play yard!
